OUGD603: Lookbook Design Development (Brief 1)

by Roxxie Blackham on Thursday, 2 October 2014

When it came to designing the look book, I didn't really have that much creative freedom as the client was rather picky on how they envisioned the final product! But this wasn't too bad, as it made it really easy to complete.

First of all I sent over a couple of layout ideas to see what direction the client wanted to go in..

The client quite liked the above idea, as you could concentrate on the image as it was large, and there wasn't going to be that much body copy on the other side.

She felt as though this layout had a bit too much going on, and didn't suit her brand.

And this layout didn't have large enough images.

We then exchanged a variety of emails, discussing changes that she wanted to see and how this would differ the overall aesthetic. From all the feedback given, I made a variety of different changes - some small, others big - and then came up with a layout that the client was keen to work with..

The following issuu document shows a variety of different layouts that the client wanted to see in action. Each page is a double page spread design..

The client was starting to become a lot happier with the ideas that I was putting forward, as the publication was starting to become more about the photography than having an interesting and different layout..

The client then decided that she would like the layout to be minimal on the left hand page, and a large photograph on every right hand page, and asked to see the body copy in different areas of the left hand page..

We decided to work with the body copy on the bottom left hand side of the left hand page, and shrink the photo size slightly to create a margin..

Because we weren't sure whether to work in black and white or a mixture of black and white and colour, I started to create publication mockups to see how they would differ using the final high res photos..

In B&W..

And in colour..

She decided that she preferred the publication to be both in colour and black and white, so I worked on a few changes that the client asked. These were all small and specific things, such as making images larger or replacing some images with other ones that worked better..

After a few more small changes, I sent over a revised copy.. Changes included adding a title page and changing a couple of images that were lower quality than expected..

With a couple of margin size alterations, and a few issues with photographs, we were ready to print!

The client has sent the publication off to be printed, so am currently waiting to see how they look, but it's quite exciting to see how this will look in context!!
