Before Wilderness, festivals’ didn’t offer forests or feasts. No one knew of a festival where you woke early to swim, or stayed late to learn. The story of Wilderness is one of gently rolling back the steel fences and quietly asking people of all ages to live together for one weekend; a story of exploring the widest lens of cultural ambition and inviting the outdoors back into the heart of the artistic experience. It’s a story of nudging the festival experience both into the past and towards the future…
Its parents are an unlikely pairing, the marriage of the creative teams behind Secret Garden Party and Lovebox. As with all great partnerships, this was one of reciprocal talents, one side bringing a passion to build transformative experiences, the other bringing a deep love of artistry and artisans. In 2011 Wilderness was born, with five thousand people celebrating the arts and outdoors in an ancient landscape.
The following two years saw sunshine, expansion and creative exploration. French street theatre companies dazzled with their spectaculars, Secret Cinema and Wayne Hemmingway’s Vintage Festival opened the doors to night time revelry, Michelin star chefs reset the bar and renowned thinkers made attendees drink in thoughtful talks as much as frothy festival beers.
Word was spreading. The following year saw Wilderness begin to settle into maturity, striking a balance between relaxation and revelry, artistic refinement and simple pleasures. The foundation stone was set for a four day celebration like no other.
The fifth season awaits. We’ve opened up more acres to camp on, invited more artists to the stages than ever before and intend, dear reader, to quietly blow you away. Many festivals may now have spas, some may have feasts and one or two may even have a place for a dip: but none will have a private nature reserve in which to roam free, none will have spring-fed lakes that are balm for the soul, and none will have an ancient landscape in which to reinvent, re-imagine and reignite the arts.

Festival Imagery:
These are some photos taken from the event. I will take some inspiration from the colours and environment.
I like the idea of creating a little woodland scene like the image above.
The colours above are really nice and right, these could be a good choice to use.
Paper Art:
I think this layering affect will be the most practical way of using the paper to create the images. I like the idea of creating 3d sculptures however I don't think its realistic with the timeframe.
This layering affect is something to consider when developing ideas.
This could be something to consider creating a landscape scene but not as tacky as this one.
Logo Ideas:
I like the idea of having the logo laser cut inside of a leaf. Im not sure if it will work so we will have to try it out and see what it looks like.
I like this illustrative style. I think that something illustrative will work really well for the logo.
Maybe a typeface like this could work as its contemporary but still has that wilderness and natural feel to it.
I really like the font in this design. Its really simple but has that hand drawn feel.
Poster Ideas:
After having some more discussions about where to take the brief we thought about the idea of creating mandalas that would be used on different posters and can be layered up to create the main poster.
Using the mandala idea we thought about using materials from nature as this would tie in with the theme of the festival.
